The field work portion of the 2010 field school has officially come to a close. Friday was a wet, muddy day which made backfilling the excavation trenches messy work.
The Final Chapter: Screening and the North Wall.
Today was the final full day of excavation and we were lucky enough to have warm, sunny weather. As is typical in archaeology, some of the most interesting finds have occurred right at the end.
It's crunch time.
As excavations near an end we are attempting to focus our attention on areas where we can gain the most information in the least amount of time.
The Governor's House opens the door to discovery.
The final week is off to a good start - the weather is wonderful and we finally didn't begin the week by bailing water out of the trenches.

Today was the busiest day at the site so far. It didn't take long for this morning's media release to draw the reporters to Upper Fort Garry.
Rain is no damper for these diggers.
Tuesday was a damp start and the students quickly became accustomed to working in the rain - thankfully they all brought their rain gear - some was a little oversized, but they made do!
And we're off to the lab.
Week 3 is off to a great start and everybody enjoyed the sunshine today.

Week 2 ended with everyone in good spirits after having made a lot of progress.
Dry land, at last.
Work is coming along very well and now that things have dried out and we've had a few nice days, the students have really started making good progress. |
