Friends of Upper Fort Garry voluntarily adheres to the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (Canada) which came into effect January 1, 2004. We aim to protect your information as if it were our own, however, we may use your information to tell you about changes in our services or about special offers we think you will find valuable.
The Information We Collect and How We Use It
Donation Information
Our donation forms, require individuals to give us contact information, email address, mailing address, and telephone number and financial information (such as a credit card number and expiration date). We use an individual’s contact information collected from the forms to send Friends of Upper Fort Garry donation receipts. The individual’s contact information is also used to contact the visitor when necessary. You may opt out of receiving future mailings; see the "Opt Out" section below. Financial information that is collected is only used to bill the individual in the event of a donation.
IP Address
We use your IP address to help diagnose problems with our server, and to administer our website. Your IP address is used to help identify you and your shopping cart and to gather broad demographic information.
Secure Server Software
Our online order forms use Secure Server Software (SSL) technology, the industry standard for secure commercial transactions. It encrypts all of your personal information, including credit card numbers, name, and address, so that it cannot be read as the information travels over the Internet. While on a secure page, the lock icon on the bottom of Web Browsers such as Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Internet Explorer is in the lock position.
We use SSL technology from the Thawte Corporation for web connection (client-to-web) security. These tools represent the strongest protection so that you can shop the Friends of Upper Fort Garry online with confidence.

Order Forms
Our site uses a donation form for individuals submit payment. We collect a customer's contact information (like their name, address, email address and telephone number) and financial information (like a credit card number and expiration date). Financial information is used to bill the purchaser for donations; it is not saved on our server.
Information Storage and Destruction
Your personal information is stored on an electronic database that is accessible by a limited number of Friends of Upper Fort Garry staff and only with the appropriate personal passwords and ID numbers. Hard copies of files are kept in secured storage on and off-site. We keep this information for 7 years, as specified by Revenue Canada, before it is sent to be destroyed. The company we employ to shred and recycle confidential material provides us with a signed certificate upon completion.

Transactions that occur between you and the third party are strictly between you and the third party and are not the responsibility of the Friends of Upper Fort Garry.
Our Security and Protection of Customer Information
This site has security measures in place to protect the loss, misuse and alteration of the information under our control. When you place a donation, we offer the use of a secure server. The secure server software (SSL) encrypts all information you input before it is sent to us. Furthermore, all of the individual data we collect is protected against unauthorized access.
Disclosing Information to Outside Parties
We may disclose your personal information to independent contractors acting on our behalf, under which your personal information remains controlled by us. Such contractors may include our database provider in order to assist us in fulfilling your subscription/membership, and the company that destroys our old files.
Friends of Upper Fort Garry may provide aggregate statistics about our individuals, sales, traffic patterns, and related site information to reputable third-party vendors, but these statistics will include no personally identifying information.
Summary
In summary, we may monitor visitor, individual and user traffic patterns and site usage to help us develop the design and layout of our Site; we may also use or disclose any information gathered to satisfy any law, regulation or other government request; and payment information that is collected is used only to process orders and bill for products and services.
